So We Got a Kitten

How many animals until you become a crazy hoarder?  I think we're still okay, because our 3 dogs weigh a combined 15lbs and one of our 2 cats is ancient.  Plus, we have a house to ourselves and no kids.

Anyway, with my old cat getting less capable and active, and living out in the country, across from a field of mice, we decided to entertain the notion of a younger, more mouser-y cat.  The humane society was advertising $10.00 kittens, and I happened to have $10.00 in my pocket, that's kitten money right there.

So we went to the slum that passes for our "humane" society, and got the obnoxious staff to show us the cats.  We found a polite and chill-seeming one, and after holding it for like 3 minutes, they asked if we were ready to adopt.  No "get to know each other" room, no "are you sure you want to care for this animal for the next 15 years," just "are you ready to get this fucking thing out of our hair?  Huh?  Take it! Take it and get the fuck out!"  So we were like, "uh...we're gonna discuss it," and went out to the car to talk.  We had wanted as tiny and cute a cat as we could get, to raise from a little baby, and we wanted female, because word on the street is that they're better mousers.  This cat was 4 months old and male.

Anyway, this happened:
'Sup
Really, the transition for this cat was completely painless, I've never had an animal adapt so readily, particularly with several other animals in the home.  Charming, as we named him for charming his way into our home, and also after the hilarious asshole character in Bill Willingham's Fables comic series, settled right in.

In fact, he turned out to be a little less chill than he seemed, too bad we couldn't spend more time with him at the "humane" society.  But whatever, we probably would've still gone home with him.

It's been almost 16 years since I had a kitten, so somewhere in my head, I knew what it was like, but I'd sort of forgotten how crazy they can be.  This cat is nothing but energy turnt up on playfulness and fueled by curiosity.  Holy crap.

Free ear-piercing with every cat

Mostly, he's still pretty good for a kitten, though.  Aside from trying to play with my grumpy elderly cat, (and giving the poor old bastard a cold) he's fine.  Hasn't even knocked down the Xmas tree.  He's like those Sour Patch commercials, though.  Sour, then sweet.  Still, it's pretty fun to have a young, playful cat around again.  He'll be a great mouser, guaranteed.
